Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 4 apples

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together.
  2. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the egg and mix until the dough is pea-sized.
  4. Pare and slice the apples.
  5. Place the apples and blueberries or rhubarb in a baking dish; no sugar needed for the fruit.
  6. Spread the dough mixture on top of the fruit.
  7. Bake uncovered at 350°F for 45 to 60 minutes until the top is brown and the fruit is cooked.
