Ingredients

  • 4 c. plain flour
  • 2 c. self-rising flour
  • 2/3 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 2/3 c. Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. instant potatoes

Instructions

  1. Mix plain flour, self-rising flour, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in warm water, then add it to the flour mixture along with Crisco, egg, instant potatoes, and additional water as needed.
  3. Knead the dough vigorously for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise until it has doubled in bulk, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Refrigerate the dough overnight.
  6. When ready to bake, shape the dough into rolls and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Allow the rolls to rise until doubled in size, about 30-45 minutes.
  8. Bake at 425°F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Brush the rolls with butter when half done for a shiny, flavorful finish.
