Ingredients

  • 1 small head red cabbage
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
  • 1 chopped apple
  • 3 slices bacon

Instructions

  1. Remove the core from the red cabbage and shred it.
  2. Add chopped onion, sugar, salt, bay leaf, and water to the cabbage.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Add red wine vinegar and chopped apple to the cabbage.
  5. Cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle with bacon bits before serving.
