Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. molasses

Instructions

  1. Measure dry ingredients and set aside.
  2. Cream shortening and sugar together.
  3. Beat in eggs and molasses until well combined.
  4. Blend all ingredients together to form a dough.
  5. Form the dough into 1-inch balls.
  6. Roll the balls in sugar to coat.
  7. Place cookies 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12 to 15 minutes until crisp.
  9. Allow cookies to cool; they will become crisp as they cool.
