- Melt shortening and add 1 cup warm water.
- Cool the mixture to touch.
- In a large bowl, mix together all dry ingredients including the yeast.
- Add cooled liquid and beaten egg to the dry mixture.
- Mix well. Add more flour if necessary until you have a good working consistency.
- Cover the bowl and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Knead the dough for 1 minute.
- Roll the dough out to the desired thickness.
- Cut the dough into pieces and place on a greased cookie sheet.
- Cover and let rise until double in size.
- Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes, then increase temperature to 425°F and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
