Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. RapidRise yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 2 1/4 cups sifted plain flour
  • 1 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Melt shortening and add 1 cup warm water.
  2. Cool the mixture to touch.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together all dry ingredients including the yeast.
  4. Add cooled liquid and beaten egg to the dry mixture.
  5. Mix well. Add more flour if necessary until you have a good working consistency.
  6. Cover the bowl and let rest for 10 minutes.
  7. Knead the dough for 1 minute.
  8. Roll the dough out to the desired thickness.
  9. Cut the dough into pieces and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  10. Cover and let rise until double in size.
  11. Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes, then increase temperature to 425°F and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
