- Prepare the cabbage by coring it, then pour boiling water into it to soften.
- Carefully remove leaves, using the tough outside and any broken pieces to line the pot.
- Fill each cabbage leaf with a mixture of ground meat, rice, and chopped onion, then roll up.
- Place the rolls in a baking dish, lining the bottom with the reserved cabbage leaves.
- Pour tomato juice over the cabbage rolls before baking, if desired.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for one hour until cooked through.
