Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 lb. butter (soft)
  • 8 oz. pitted dates
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. water

Instructions

  1. Mix first 4 ingredients with fingers.
  2. Slice dates into fourths.
  3. Add to water and sugar in pot and boil 1/2 hour.
  4. Let stand to cool.
  5. Spread 1/2 of oat mixture in baking pan (13 x 9-inch).
  6. Spread on dates and top with remaining oat mixture. Press down firmly.
  7. Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.
  8. Cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
