Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 3/4 cup graham or whole wheat bread flour
  • 3/4 cup rye flour
  • 3/4 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups sour milk
  • 3/4 cup molasses

Instructions

  1. Sift the flours and mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Divide the mixture evenly into two coffee cans, each filled about two-thirds full.
  3. Steam the bread in the cans for 3 hours until cooked through.
  4. Remove from steam and let cool before serving.
