Ingredients

  • 2 cups scalded milk
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 5 to 5 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
  2. Sprinkle a little sugar over yeast and let it activate.
  3. Combine scalded milk, sugar, oil, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add flour until the dough becomes too thick to mix with a beater.
  6. Turn the dough onto a well-floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  7. Form the dough into a round ball and place in a well-oiled bowl.
  8. Cover and let it rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
  9. Punch down the dough and knead 2 to 3 times.
  10. Form the dough into rolls and place on a baking sheet.
  11. Allow the rolls to rise again until doubled in size.
  12. Bake at 400°F (200°C) until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
