Ingredients

  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 c. cooked, diced ham
  • 1/2 c. quick grits
  • salt to taste
  • 3/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, simmer hot water, butter, sliced onion, and diced ham until the onion is just soft.
  2. Add quick grits and salt; bring to a boil.
  3. Cover and reduce heat, stirring occasionally, until grits reach desired thickness.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in grated Cheddar cheese until melted.
  5. Serve hot.
