- Stir grits, garlic and pepper into boiling chicken broth. Cook, stirring occasionally, over medium heat until thick, 3 to 4 minutes.
- Discard garlic clove (if used).
- Stir in green onions and butter.
- Cover and let stand 5 minutes.
