Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups applesauce
  • 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 1 package (6 oz.) fruit flavored gelatin
  • 2 cups sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix the applesauce, unflavored gelatin, fruit flavored gelatin, sugar, and lemon juice; heat to boiling and boil for 1 minute, stirring frequently.
  2. Fill a loaf pan halfway with cold water.
  3. Pour out the water, then immediately pour the gelatin mixture into the wet loaf pan, using a rubber scraper to clean the side of the saucepan.
  4. When the loaf pan is cool enough to touch, refrigerate about 3 hours or until the candy is firm.
  5. Cut the candy into 1-inch squares, dipping the knife in water to prevent sticking.
  6. Lift each square from the pan onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Let stand at least 8 hours to dry.
  8. After the candy has dried, place some sugar in a bowl, then roll each square in the sugar until all sides are coated.
