Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • 1 tsp. double-action baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Cream butter at room temperature and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add egg yolks and beat well.
  3. Alternately add sifted flour with milk and vanilla flavoring to the mixture.
  4. Beat egg whites with baking powder until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold the beaten egg whites into the batter gently.
  6. Pour the batter into a tube pan lined on the bottom with greased wax paper.
  7. Bake in a 325°F oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.
  8. Alternatively, bake in 2 greased bread pans for about 45 minutes.
