- Melt the shortening and sugar in boiling water.
- Cool the mixture to lukewarm temperature.
- Add the dissolved yeast cake mixture to the cooled water.
- Add salt and beaten egg to the mixture.
- Gradually add enough flour to make a stiff dough.
- Store the dough in the refrigerator until about 2 hours before baking.
- Roll out the dough, cut into desired shapes, and let rise until doubled in size.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 450°F until golden brown.
