Ingredients

  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Melt the shortening and sugar in boiling water.
  2. Cool the mixture to lukewarm temperature.
  3. Add the dissolved yeast cake mixture to the cooled water.
  4. Add salt and beaten egg to the mixture.
  5. Gradually add enough flour to make a stiff dough.
  6. Store the dough in the refrigerator until about 2 hours before baking.
  7. Roll out the dough, cut into desired shapes, and let rise until doubled in size.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 450°F until golden brown.
