Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons dill
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup sharp shredded Cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sifted flour, baking powder, dill, and salt.
  2. Use a fork to cut in vegetable shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
  3. Stir in shredded cheese.
  4. Add milk and stir just enough to hold the dough together.
  5. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead lightly.
  6. Roll the dough to a thickness of 3/4 inch.
  7. Cut out biscuits with a floured biscuit cutter without turning the cutter, pushing straight down.
  8. Place the biscuits on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake at 425°F for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
