Ingredients

  • 3/4 lb butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and cornstarch, then gradually add to the creamed mixture, one cup at a time, mixing until well incorporated.
  3. Prick all over the surface of the dough with a fork to prevent puffing during baking.
  4. Place the dough in a preheated oven set to 375°F, then immediately reduce the temperature to 300°F.
  5. Bake for 1 hour or until the shortbread is a pale golden brown.
  6. While hot, cut the shortbread into fingers or desired shapes.
  7. Allow to cool completely in the pan before removing and serving.
