Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1/2 lemon peel, grated
  • 6 medium cooking apples

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, water, cloves, cinnamon stick, and grated lemon peel in a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  2. Pare, core, and cut the apples into eighths.
  3. Add the apples to the syrup and cook slowly for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the apples are almost tender.
  4. Remove the cloves and cinnamon stick, then serve the apples warm.
