Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups unsifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 (12 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl.
  3. Beat together the shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until creamy.
  4. Add eggs; beat until fluffy.
  5. Gradually beat in the flour mixture and rolled oats.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Drop by teaspoonfuls of batter onto cookie sheets.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Cool cookies on sheets for 2 minutes before removing.
