Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 pkg. yeast

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk and set aside to cool to room temperature.
  2. Mix sugar and shortening with the cooled milk mixture.
  3. Dissolve yeast in the milk mixture.
  4. Add enough flour to make a thick batter and beat well.
  5. Let the batter rise until double in size, about 2 hours.
  6. Add baking powder, salt, and soda to the batter.
  7. Add flour gradually to make a soft dough.
  8. Knead the dough and shape into rolls.
  9. Let the rolls rise for 1 hour or more.
  10. Bake in a moderate oven until golden brown.
