Ingredients

  • 2 (16 oz.) cans pitted, tart cherries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon anise seed, crushed
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food color
  • sour cream
  • mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Drain cherries; save the juice.
  2. Add water to cherry juice to make 5 cups.
  3. Over medium heat, combine cherries, liquid, sugar, lemon juice, and crushed anise seed and bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
  5. Using a blender, blend the mixture until smooth, blending half at a time.
  6. Return the blended mixture to the heat and bring to a boil again.
