Ingredients

  • 2 gallons cucumbers, sliced thin
  • 1 gallon boiling water
  • 2 cups salt

Instructions

  1. Mix boiling water and salt, then pour over sliced cucumbers and let stand for one week, stirring after the third day to keep down scum.
  2. Drain the cucumbers and add alum about the size of a walnut, powdered if available.
  3. Cover with boiling water and let stand for 24 hours or no more than 2 days.
  4. Drain and rinse the cucumbers in cold water.
