Icy Walnut Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/3 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 c. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp. orange extract
  • 3 c. 10x sugar
  • 1 c. chopped dates

Instructions

  1. In large mixing bowl, combine flour and brown sugar.
  2. Cut in margarine until crumbly.
  3. Stir in walnuts.
  4. Place in 13 x 9-inch pan (do not pat down).
  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Stir occasionally, until crumbs are toasted and golden brown.
  7. Cool; set aside.
  8. In same mixing bowl, combine milk, extract and powdered sugar.
  9. Stir in dates and remaining walnuts.
  10. Drop by scant teaspoon into cooled crumbs; shape into balls, rolling to coat.
  11. Store in refrigerator.
  12. Bake at 400°.
  13. Makes 50 cookies.
