Ingredients

  • 3 c. self-rising flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp. margarine (soft)
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. milk
  • 1/2 c. currants or raisins

Instructions

  1. Sift the self-rising flour, salt, and baking powder together.
  2. Add the softened margarine and rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the sugar and currants or raisins.
  4. Pour in the milk and work the mixture into a soft, sticky dough.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it.
  6. Pat the dough into a round about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges or rounds.
  7. Place the scones on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
