Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 c lukewarm water
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp shortening
  • 3 c all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Add water to yeast and sugar and set aside to activate.
  2. Scald the milk and then pour it over the shortening and salt to melt the shortening.
  3. Add the beaten egg, yeast mixture, and all-purpose flour to the mixture.
  4. Beat until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the risen dough and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
