- Combine hot water, salt, lard, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
- Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm temperature.
- Dissolve the yeast in 2 tablespoons of water and add it to the cooled mixture.
- Add the beaten egg and half of the flour to the mixture.
- Beat the mixture well and then stir in the remaining flour.
- Knead the dough, using about 1/2 cup of flour as needed.
- Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in bulk.
- Punch down the dough, then refrigerate and let it rise again before shaping and baking.
