Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons lard (Crisco)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Combine hot water, salt, lard, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm temperature.
  3. Dissolve the yeast in 2 tablespoons of water and add it to the cooled mixture.
  4. Add the beaten egg and half of the flour to the mixture.
  5. Beat the mixture well and then stir in the remaining flour.
  6. Knead the dough, using about 1/2 cup of flour as needed.
  7. Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in bulk.
  8. Punch down the dough, then refrigerate and let it rise again before shaping and baking.
