Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 package or tablespoon yeast
  • 2 scant teaspoons salt
  • 2 generous tablespoons sugar
  • 3 to 4 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted shortening or oil

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, yeast, salt, sugar, and melted shortening or oil together, then knead until the dough is firm and elastic.
  2. Let the dough rise for 10 minutes.
  3. Punch down the dough.
  4. Let the dough rise until it doubles in size.
  5. Put the dough in a bread pan and let it rise again.
  6. Bake in a 350°F oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
