Ingredients

  • 30 to 36 doves, cleaned
  • 3 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 3 medium yellow onions, chopped
  • 1 cup pimento stuffed green olives
  • 2 to 3 packages brown gravy mix
  • 1 to 2 frozen pastry sheets

Instructions

  1. Brown the doves in butter.
  2. Cook the doves covered with a small amount of water or bouillon until tender and the breast can be easily pulled off the bone.
  3. Saute the sliced mushrooms and chopped onions in butter until just soft.
  4. Combine the dove meat with the vegetables and olives, then add enough brown gravy mix to make the mixture juicy and moist but not too thin or runny.
  5. Spray PAM in a 9x13-inch Pyrex dish and spread the mixture evenly into the dish.
  6. Roll out the frozen pastry sheets quite thin and cut into strips.
  7. Arrange the pastry strips in a crisscross pattern over the mixture.
  8. Spray with PAM.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
