- Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup of lukewarm water.
- Pour scalded milk over the butter to melt it and let it cool slightly.
- When the milk mixture is lukewarm, add the yeast and sugar, stirring to combine.
- Add half of the flour and salt to the mixture and beat well for 10 minutes.
- Add the beaten eggs and mix thoroughly.
- Stir in the fruit (currants, citron, raisins, cherries) and add the remaining flour.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
- Allow the dough to rise until doubled in size, then shape and bake as desired.
