Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. cocoa (unsweetened)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. corn syrup (clear)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 oz. applesauce or baby prunes
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients.
  2. Add in all other ingredients except nuts and coconut.
  3. Beat well.
  4. Blend in nuts and coconut.
  5. Pour in well greased 13 x 9-inch pan (or double recipe and use a cookie sheet and 8-inch round pan).
  6. Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes. Cut while warm.
