Ingredients

  • 2 lb. round steak, cubed
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 10 whole allspice
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. flour
  • water
  • 2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Coat meat with flour and brown in hot oil in Dutch oven. Remove meat.
  2. Stir in 2 cups water and cook and stir to loosen brown bits.
  3. Add meat and remaining ingredients.
  4. Cook and simmer 2 hours or until meat is tender.
  5. Add more water during cooking time as needed.
  6. Remove allspice and bay leaves.
  7. Serve with pickled beets and mashed potatoes.
