Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup white Karo syrup
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening with vanilla until light and fluffy.
  2. Add Karo syrup and eggs, continue beating until well combined.
  3. Fold in half of the flour, baking powder, and half of the milk until just combined.
  4. Add the remaining flour and milk, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour batter evenly into two 8-inch greased cake pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool completely on wire racks.
  8. Frost with Karo frosting before serving.
