Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • pinch of baking soda
  • 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cream together butter, shortening, and sugar.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add baking powder, vanilla, baking soda, and 3 cups of flour; mix to combine.
  4. Stir in the remaining 3 cups of flour until a dough forms.
  5. Roll the dough into pencil-like shapes.
  6. Twist the shapes into rope forms.
  7. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
