Kutsinta is a chewy, mildly sweet Filipino steamed rice cake with a sticky texture and caramel flavor, perfect for snack time or celebrations, served with grated coconut.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon lye water

Instructions

  1. Bring water and brown sugar to a boil.
  2. Let the mixture cool.
  3. Add the cooled mixture to the flour and stir until smooth.
  4. Add lye water and mix well.
  5. Fill greased muffin pans 3/4 full with the batter.
  6. Steam for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool before removing from the pans.
  8. Serve with grated fresh coconut.
