Lemonade-Watermelon Punch

Ingredients

  • 1 large watermelon (about 25 lb.)
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 (12 oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • 1/4 c. grenadine syrup
  • 2 (32 oz.) bottles lemon-lime carbonated beverage, chilled

Instructions

  1. Select a melon about 20 inches long with a flat base.
  2. The day before serving, cut an 8-inch oval section making a sawtooth edge out of the top of the melon.
  3. Remove the cut portion and reserve.
  4. Using a long-handled spoon, scoop out pulp and remove seeds.
  5. Place 1/4 of the pulp at a time in a blender or food processor bowl.
  6. Cover and blend or process until pureed; should have about 12 cups.
  7. Place the melon shell on a large tray.
  8. Return the puree to the melon shell; stir in water, lemonade concentrate, and grenadine.
  9. Replace the cut-out portion of the melon.
  10. Refrigerate overnight.
  11. Before serving, remove the cut-out portion of the melon.
  12. Pour in the lemon-lime beverage to fill 3/4 full, then stir with an up-and-down motion.
  13. Ladle punch into cups and serve.
