- Trim crust from bread and cut into 2-inch cubes.
- Beat eggs and sugar in a large bowl until pale yellow.
- Add heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and lemon zest to the egg mixture.
- Add bread cubes and toss to coat well.
- Pour the mixture into a buttered 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) until set, about 30 minutes.
