Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • 1 loaf stale French bread or brioche or challah

Instructions

  1. Trim crust from bread and cut into 2-inch cubes.
  2. Beat eggs and sugar in a large bowl until pale yellow.
  3. Add heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and lemon zest to the egg mixture.
  4. Add bread cubes and toss to coat well.
  5. Pour the mixture into a buttered 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until set, about 30 minutes.
  7. Transfer baking dish to a wire rack and allow to cool slightly.
  8. Ladle Blueberry-Lemon Sauce over the top before serving.
