Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix well with a pastry blender the flour, sugar, shortening, cinnamon, and ginger.
  2. Save out 1/2 cup of the mixture for topping.
  3. Add the egg, molasses, sour milk, soda, and salt to the flour mixture.
  4. Mix everything together until combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 9-inch pan.
  6. Sprinkle the reserved topping over the batter.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 45 minutes.
