Ingredients

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 beaten egg

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  2. Stir in ginger, salt, and sugar; blend in flour.
  3. Stir until the mixture is moist.
  4. Knead on a floured board until smooth.
  5. Break the dough into 12 to 14 pieces.
  6. Roll each piece into ropes and braid them.
  7. Arrange the braided rolls on a lightly buttered cookie sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seed.
  9. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.
