Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. walnuts, cut up dates or candied fruit

Instructions

  1. Bring sugar and water to boil.
  2. Simmer 5 minutes and cool. Then add eggs and mix well.
  3. Sift together the following and add to mixture:
  4. flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
  5. Add walnuts, dates or candied fruit.
  6. Beat all together.
  7. Bake 1 hour at 350°.
