Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup mashed potatoes
  • 2 packets dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • 8 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • brown sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, melt shortening, then add milk and sugar. Heat carefully.
  2. Prepare yeast by dissolving it in warm water.
  3. Add mashed potatoes to the hot mixture in the saucepan.
  4. Add the hot mixture to the flour in a large bowl.
  5. Add beaten eggs to the mixture.
  6. Mix well, then add the yeast mixture.
  7. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  8. Shape the dough into buns and dip each into melted butter.
  9. Dip the buttered buns into a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
  10. Place the buns on a baking sheet and let rise again.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
