Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • a dab salt
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup melted lard
  • 1 cup sour milk

Instructions

  1. Mix together in a bowl: sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add boiling water, melted lard, and sour milk to the dry ingredients.
  3. Combine all ingredients until smooth and well blended.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool before frosting or serving.
