Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs (except 2 whites)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Mix butter and sugar well until creamy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, excluding 2 whites, and beat well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour with baking powder, then add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Mix milk with vanilla and gradually add to the batter, stirring until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into 4 greased cake pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until the cakes are slightly brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool before assembling and frosting.
