Ingredients

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ

Instructions

  1. Mix dry yeast, sugar, and warm water; let stand until bubbly.
  2. In a bowl, combine brown sugar or honey, milk, salt, oil, 2 cups of flour, and wheat germ.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the bowl, then add 2 more cups of flour.
  4. Beat with a spoon until well mixed.
  5. Pour the batter into two greased 1-pound coffee cans.
  6. Let the dough rise until it reaches the top of the cans.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  8. Cool the bread; then remove from cans.
  9. Keep refrigerated and enjoy toasted.
