  • 1 c. olive oil
  • 1/3 c. basil vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped chives
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • 1 tsp. chopped chervil
  • 1 tsp. chopped basil
  • 1 tsp. chopped tarragon
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 c. wild turkey, cooked and cubed
  • 1 c. shrimp, cooked

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together, except turkey and shrimp.
  2. Pour the mixture over the cooked and cubed turkey and cooked shrimp.
  3. Marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
  4. Drain the marinated mixture.
  5. Serve with wild rice.
  6. Garnish with almonds and artichoke hearts.

Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavors, consider marinating for longer than overnight if possible, as the turkey and shrimp will absorb more of the marinade. For a twist, substitute the wild turkey with chicken or even tofu for a vegetarian option. Fresh herbs can be swapped based on availability; cilantro or dill can also work well. If you prefer a bit of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these marinated morsels over a bed of wild rice, which complements the dish's flavors perfectly. You can also serve them with roasted vegetables or a fresh salad for a lighter option. For an elegant touch, consider garnishing with slivered almonds and artichoke hearts, adding both texture and flavor. This dish pairs beautifully with Mediterranean recipes.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The flavors will continue to meld and improve over time. To reheat, gently warm the mixture in a skillet over low heat or serve it cold as a salad. Avoid high heat to prevent overcooking the shrimp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen shrimp for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen shrimp, but make sure to thaw them thoroughly before cooking and cubing. Submerge them in cold water for a quick thaw, and then pat them dry before adding to the marinade. This ensures the shrimp will absorb the marinade flavors effectively.

What can I substitute for basil vinegar?

If you don't have basil vinegar, you can use regular white wine vinegar mixed with a teaspoon of dried basil. This will provide a similar flavor profile. Alternatively, apple cider vinegar mixed with fresh basil can also work well, giving a nice tang to the marinade.

Is it necessary to drain the marinade before serving?

Draining the marinade is recommended to prevent the dish from becoming too soggy. However, you can reserve some of the marinade as a dressing if you prefer a more saucy presentation. Just be sure to taste it first, as it will be quite strong in flavor.
