Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tall can evaporated milk
  • 3 Tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Put the yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar, and warm water in a mixer bowl and stir.
  2. Cover; let stand until bubbles form, about 15 minutes.
  3. Add flour, evaporated milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture after bubbles have formed.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Divide the dough into 2 parts and drop into well-greased one-pound coffee cans.
  6. Punch down the dough with a spoon to remove air.
  7. Place greased coffee can lids on the cans.
  8. Let stand at room temperature until lids pop off, about 1 hour.
  9. Remove lids and grease the top of the dough to improve the crust.
  10. Bake in cans at 350°F for 45 minutes until the crust is brown.
