Creamy and cheesy Mexican shells stuffed with seasoned hamburger, topped with onions and melted cheese, perfect for family dinners and casual gatherings with bold flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger meat
  • 1 (8 oz.) jar picante sauce
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 can Durkee fried onions
  • 1 (12 oz.) box jumbo pasta shells

Instructions

  1. Cook jumbo pasta shells according to package directions and drain.
  2. Brown hamburger meat in a skillet and drain excess fat.
  3. Mix picante sauce, tomato sauce, and water together.
  4. Add 1/2 cup of the sauce mixture, 1/2 cup of cheese, and 1/4 cup of fried onions to the cooked meat.
  5. Pour half of the remaining sauce into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch Pyrex dish.
  6. Stuff the cooked shells with the meat mixture and place them into the dish.
  7. Pour the remaining sauce over the stuffed shells.
  8. Cover and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
  9. Uncover and top with the remaining cheese and fried onions.
  10. Return to the oven just to brown the onions and melt the cheese before serving.
