- Combine brown sugar, margarine, Karo syrup, and salt in a microwave-safe container.
- Microwave on High for 2 1/2 minutes to boil the mixture.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and stir well.
- Put popcorn in a large, heavy brown paper bag.
- Pour the caramel sauce over the popcorn and shake the bag vigorously to coat evenly.
- Microwave the bag on High for 1 1/2 minutes.
- Remove the bag and shake well.
- Microwave again for another 1 1/2 minutes.
- Remove and shake the bag again.
- Spread the caramel-coated popcorn on waxed paper to cool before serving.
