  2. Slowly add the second cup of milk and repeat the cooking process.
  3. Add the final cup of milk, butter, and salt.

Tips & Substitutions

To ensure a smooth caramel, use a candy thermometer to accurately track the temperature. If you don't have light corn syrup, you can substitute with honey or agave syrup, but the flavor may change slightly. Stir constantly during cooking to prevent burning. For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg.

Serving Suggestions

These milk caramels make a delightful treat on their own or as a sweet addition to gift baskets. They pair beautifully with a cup of coffee or tea for an afternoon snack. Consider serving them alongside the Banana Frozen Salad for a refreshing contrast or as a topping on ice cream.

Storage & Reheating

Store the cooled caramels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. To prevent them from sticking together, you can layer them with parchment paper. If you want to reheat them, place them in the microwave for a few seconds until soft, but be careful not to overheat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my caramels are too hard?

If your caramels turn out too hard, it may be due to cooking beyond the firm ball stage. To salvage them, try melting the caramels gently in a saucepan with a splash of milk until they reach a softer consistency. Alternatively, next time, reduce the cooking time.

Can I add nuts to these caramels?

Yes, you can definitely add nuts to enhance the flavor and texture! Chopped pecans or walnuts work well. Stir them in just before pouring the caramel into the pan, but ensure the caramel isn't too hot to avoid burning the nuts.

How can I make these caramels vegan?

To make vegan milk caramels, substitute dairy milk with almond, soy, or coconut milk, and replace butter with coconut oil or a vegan butter alternative. Ensure that your sugar is vegan-friendly, as some brands are processed with bone char.
