Mincemeat Pies

A rich, spiced mincemeat filling made with chopped meat, apples, dried fruits, and aromatic spices, perfect for festive pies that appeal to both traditional and modern palates.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 pt. chopped meat (beef or pork)
  • 1 1/2 pt. suet
  • 7 pt. apples
  • 2 lb. currants
  • 2 lb. raisins
  • 5 pt. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp. cloves
  • 1 Tbsp. nutmeg
  • 2 oranges
  • 3/4 c. citron

Instructions

  1. Mix the chopped meat, suet, apples, currants, raisins, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and citron together.
  2. Add the juice of two oranges and about half a gallon of cider or fruit juice to the mixture and combine thoroughly.
  3. Prepare pie crusts and fill with the mincemeat mixture.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 60 minutes or until the crust is golden and filling is bubbling.
