Ingredients

  • 2 c. plain meal
  • 1 c. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. melted shortening

Instructions

  1. Grease loaf pans.
  2. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour in 350° oven. Bake in 2 regular loaf pans. Mix all dry ingredients together in large mixing bowl; add milk, then egg, last shortening.
  3. Divide in 2 pans.
  4. Check your oven for timing.
  5. Let cook to light brown.
