Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted lard
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup Swans Down cake flour

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Add one cup of boiling water last and mix well.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  4. Bake at 350° to 375°F for about 30 minutes, monitoring to prevent burning.
  5. Insert a knife into the center; if it comes out clean, the cake is done.
